There are several differences between a freestanding washing machines and integrated washing machines. The latter has a set of mounted doors and sited controls that allow for a fascia board to be fitted. They are designed to match your existing cupboards. Integrated washing machines are available with many options, just as a freestanding washing machine. It depends on what features are important to you. 

Which Model Is Best? 

The more complex a washing machine is, the more there is to go wrong! There are many models that have a ton of bells and whistles, but do you need all of them? If you don’t, you can save money by going with a more budget-minded model.  

If you need a model that can handle large loads, then go with 6kg load size. For those that may not need one that handles that large a load, a 4kg load will work. Almost all of the newer models are quiet. One that ranges around 7 db or lower during the spin cycle is considered quiet. 

Most the newer models are designed to last several years without repair. You may want o keep in mind that a model on the lower end of the price range may not last quite as long and you may incur more repair costs. 

Most front loading integrated washing machines are about 60 cm in width. If you need something a little narrower, you may want to consider a top-loader. Before you make your purchase, measure the space more than once to be sure the machine will fit. 

Spin speed is important. Most machines will start around 800 rpm and go all the way up to 1600 rpm. Those machines with a spin speed of about 1000 rpm are usually more than adequate. The faster the spin cycle, the less time it will take the dryer to do its job. However, many of the faster spin washing machines will wear out faster than the slower ones.

You’ll find the lowest prices online, in most cases. Look for reputable sites and do your research on the various models beforehand. Online review sites are a good place to start. You can see how other consumers have rated the products, as well as compare features and pricing. If you’re shopping locally, look for sales and clearance promotions. You may find several stores that offer free delivery or an extended warranty at no charge. Don’t let the sales staff talk you into a more expensive model. Go into the store with the research you have done in mind. This will help keep you within your budget and not get one of the more expensive integrated washing machines simply because of the “bells and whistles.”

Top loading washers use more energy and water than front loaders. However, you will need special laundry soap for most front loading washers. You may want to weight the costs and savings for each to see if a top loading machine’s higher price tag is worth it.

When you measure for your new washer, make sure to leave a small amount of space for movement when the washing machine spins. Otherwise, you may damage the machine or the countertop/cupboard area.

In most cases, the typical cycle will last about an hour and a half. Choose a washing machine that has an A energy rating or higher on your energy bills.
